A father and husband first, business owner/operator second.
Native Texan raised with respect for hard work, honesty, courtesy, family loyalty, and personal responsibility. I have a background in welding and a passion for working with my hands; combined with my love of cooking I started Heirloom Pits. With over 25 years of welding and fabrication experience I set out to make products that excelled in quality and performance.
"If I can see it, I can build it!"
I come from a long line of men that worked with their hands and only had time to do things once. It was built right the first time, and overbuilt so you would never have to worry about it. "She aint much to look at, but she's hell for stout" were the words of my great grandfather. That mindset of overbuilding is engrained in me and I have carried it into everything I build today. My cookers are overbuilt to stand the test of time, but they are also functional works of art.
At the age of 13 I struck my first arc on a plow disc in a dirt floor shop in Pearsall Texas. That day I knew I was going to be a welder, and from then on I did everything I could to learn as much about welding and fabrication as possible. I attended college and graduated with an Associates degree in Welding Technologies and certification in advanced pipeline welding. I immediately found myself working in the Oil and Gas industry specializing in small diameter, exotic stainless, hydraulic control tubing for deep water sub sea oil well control systems. Hard to access welds in less than ideal locations and conditions required to pass NDE testing with zero defects were my specialty.
Along the way I found BBQ and developed a strong passion for cooking and perfecting recipes, which also turned into a passion for understanding offset smokers and ways to make them better. What started in my garage in 2015 as a side job to fill the ups and downs of Oil and Gas eventually led to my departure of the industry. After 19 years with the same company I decided to take a different path, in January 2023 I opened a shop in Magnolia Texas and Heirloom Pits was born.
